It’s good

So I watched this when I was younger than 7 with my mom and I really liked it but there’s sex, suicide amongst other sensitive topics so I definitely think it just depends on the maturity of the kid

Powerful but imperfect film

Definitely for mature audiences that can handle intense films which this certainly is. The amazing stop motion is a thing of beauty and feels really useful.

One of the most sad but most beautiful movies I have ever seen

Well this movie is seriously one of my favorites, the way the handle of the sad themes so well really amazed me, also the message is really subtle that being that anyone can be friends with anyone. The story is that an 8 year girl Mary (who wonders where babies come from) writes a letter to Mr. Horowitz and they start a 22 year pen pal relationship. But behind that outstanding message and great story is a decently dark and depressing movie, the first hour is really happy and really up beat, featuring some dark humor (and some mild cartoonish nudity) and there's not really any sad scenes that are notable, but after the first hour things go downhill fast, the mother most of the time is an alcoholic and lies to her daughter about "testing" the alcohol, it goes a little to far after she confuses sherry for a toxic substance and dies (one of the most disturbing scene.) and then Mary grows up and starts becoming an alcoholic, eventually she loses her husband (he leaves her for another man due to him being a homosexual) and eventually tries to kill herself (in one of the most brilliantly made scenes) but she fails. The ending is very bittersweet and made me tear up. I personally strongly recommend this movie for anybody 13+ due to the mild sexual themes (nothing too bad) and themes of alcoholism, obesity and depression. This movie is amazing and everyone should watch it!

Sweet movie but has dark themes

This movie could be watched by some 11-12 year olds but it depends on the kid. The friendship is really sweet to watch and I loved the ending. Some parts were boring. There are a lot of dark parts like Mary's mom's alcoholism, many deaths (and jokes about it), a suicide attempt, and I think a few sex jokes.

Sweet and heartfelt

The movie is extremly touching and the characters are so imperfect yet innocent and kind that you grow to care for them in a way you never expected.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa!

Mary and max is one of my favourite movies, but the sex goes beyond. The violence is pretty bad too, with plenty bloody images and suicide attempts. But the sex is something you should not show to your kids. WATCH

mary and max is not for little kids

i think mary and max is a amazing movie but its not for kids because it is very vulgar 2 dogs are seen humping eachother mary asks her grandfather where babies come from and he says they come from the bottom of beers marys mom is a alcoholic and smoker max draws a girls body with boobs on the wall and gets slapped by his mother max said he used to work in a condom factory and that he has never used a condom max was in court for a guy who killed all his freinds at his surprise birthday party theirs a fish seen smoking a cigarette and theirs a thought bubble with a man and women rubbing against each other naked and mary tries to kill herself at the end of the movie by taking Valium and hanging herself but is saved by a old guy in a wheel chair and its really vilonte maxs parents were shot when he was a kid and a fish bites a old guys legs off in a flashback and blood sprays out of the stump with that being said i dont reccomend mary and max for anyone under the age of 14

It's a good movie overall

This movie is good...just not good for all ages.although the message is sweet and a good message for kids this movie is seductive. It has many adult themed contents such as use of offence to ____(can't say it it would be offensive)use of alcohol, smoking ,a lot of sex themed things (how baby's are made,love,erection,testicals... Etc.) In conclusion this movie is good but not for all audiences so I'd rate this movie for 11 and up

its a good movie. Yeah I agree, but its not underage appropriate due to the role models, the sexual use alcoholism etc. it has a great message but as parents and educators for 15 and under, i think there's a better way to teach the message
