A depressed girl (Sandy) and a bullied foster boy (Sam) both at the age of 12 run away into the woods together while eager adults send the rest of the Sam's boy scout troup to search for them. Hilarious romantic comedy that takes place in the 1960s.
Bad stuff: Mild language, some smoking (it's the 1960s, what do you expect?), characters are shown dancing in undergarments (awkward) but in their defense, they were waiting for their clothes to dry, one kiss and 2 french kisses, Sam touches Suzy's chests, Suzy stabs boy scout in back (no gore shown, small part where blood is shown on hands, arrow shown and being bulled out of animal, the basic fact that they are 12 and they are way too young to be falling in love and doing this kind of stuff so it gives kids their age the wrong message.
Good Stuff: Overall good movie with a brilliant plot, not just a romance but also very much a comedy, characters relate to actual teens (depressed, unpopular, bullied), shows how even kids with major flaws or who are being bullied or have depression can find someone who shares the same interests, shows good friendship messages, magical feeling, as for the fact that they are 12 and falling in love, hey, its the 1960s. what do you expect? things were different back then.
I think this is a great movie as long as you remind your kids that this takes place a long time ago, to wait 'til you're ready to fall in love, and that running away will get you nowhere. This movie also has endless funny moments and is more a comedy than a romance to me. They don't say cheesy romantic things, they only kiss 3 times, etc.. This is a must-see hilarious comedy with a touch of romance that is beautifully scripted. Watch it and I nearly guarantee that you will enjoy it.
