What's the Story?

Winner of the Best Documentary Feature Oscar at the 2026 Academy Awards, this film is a sharp warning about what happens when governments rewrite history, deny truths, and punish independent thought. Although set in Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Nobody Against Putin is a cautionary tale with far broader relevance—to watch it and sneer at one nation while ignoring similar attempts elsewhere would be to miss the point entirely. With a compelling lead character in Talankin, it's also an ideal starting point for discussing critical thinking, questioning authority, and celebrating the courage of those who strive for truth at great personal risk.
