What's the Story?
MUTINY tells the story of Cole Reed (Jason Statham), a diligent and loyal security guard for his billionaire employer, who is murdered in front of Cole's eyes. Cole is then framed for the murder, and while he attempts to clear his name, he also seeks revenge on those who killed his boss. His quest for justice takes him aboard a ship, where he meets Angie (Annabelle Wallis), who is in a spot of bother herself.
Is It Any Good?
Statham has proved an engaging action hero over the years, and fans of his will enjoy seeing him play through his hits that have made him such a successful box office star. In Mutiny, he plays a man who seeks justice (tick), with a strong moral code (tick), who doesn't say much (tick), but lets his fists do the talking (tick). It's a role he does very well, in fairness—he's more than adept at the action, and he has the star quality to lead the project. The narrative is somewhat conventional, though there is an enjoyable added element of Statham's Cole not only seeking revenge, but running from law enforcement who have him down as a wanted fugitive. The violence is entertaining, the big set pieces accomplished and creative, but the less said about the script the better, as on this occasion, it really is better when the fists do the talking.
