An Inspirational Life Lesson Hidden by Collegian Antics
Let's get this out of the way. Vance "Van" Wilder Jr's journey is messy.
He's a slacker who uses his fathers money to live at college, avoiding life and partying.
That being said, Van does have some admirable qualities.
He's inspirational, kind, and insightful. He longs to repay Coolidge College for the years of partying it has given him, and he does this by raising funds for the swim team and encouraging the basketball team to victory.
While at the start of the movie he has no interest in graduating, he slowly learns through journalist Gwen that he is hiding. This in turn inspires him to start attending classes more frequently.
This movie is his journey towards life.
Yes, there is a rivalry between Van and Student Body President Richard Baggs, but while for Van it's mostly harmless college pranks, Richard is out for blood.
Van's emotional journey during the spring semester of college is an inspirational roller coaster that, while raunchy, is heartfelt and warmhearted.
Connect with your inner collegian,
Become inspired,
Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive.

story of a college hero - must see for anyone about to attend or attending college
Dont listen to the other prudes on this comment string, this movie was amazing. I'll admit its definitely not for ages 16 and under, but the jokes are hilarious. This movie tells the story of a man who spent 7 years in college and was adored by his peers, its truly a classic for college movies.

Humurous but definately not for kids.
It has lots of nudity, sexuality throughout and intensively strong language.

Van Wilder is less funny than the average R-rated comedy
People looking for a funny, R-rated, raunchy comedy should be at the end of their ropes before watching Van Wilder. Van Wilder relies more on gross-out pranks and sexual situations, then on funny dialogue. Therefore, mostly teens will find this humor funny, while adults are likely to sigh, thinking "what disgusting act will come next?" Parents should know that this movie has tons and tons of references to sex acts, bodily functions, and body parts. The movie opens with a scene of what the audience thinks is oral sex (what we later find out is that it's a woman fixing a mans pants, while sucking on a lollipop.) A man describes with graphic detail about how he came to America to have all kinds of sex. A man is tricked by an elderly woman into having sex with her. There are 2 scenes of sex, and many bare breasts and a bare butt. One person almost has sex, but gets his back lit on fire and falls out of a window (the person is fine and it's all comical). A group of people masturbate a dog with very big testicles, and then a different group of people unknowingly eat twinkies filled with the dogs semen. There is are a couple of f**ks, s**ts, and many slang terms for sex acts and body parts. There is also use of marijuana through a bong and a group of 8 year olds, who drink till they throw-up. This movie reminded me of Animal House, so people who enjoyed that might have fun with Van Wilder. However it is likely, that many will just be bored by Van Wilder.
