Watch out for nudity

Of course, it is a Zombie movie so there's gore...but what's not listed is the naked zombie in the movie. There are some versions where she is edited out so there is no nudity, but in some you can see her front from the waist up, showing bare breasts up close and then her whole body from behind showing her butt.

Romero this is very spooky!

scary and spooky, will give your children nightmares about zombies though... nothing sexual here, except a view of buttcheeks! but thats it! i reccomend for all ages, but still might want to watch with your kids and tell them "its only a movie"

The grandaddy of zombie flicks

Why this film is ranked so highly amongst not just zombie films but in the horror genre in general I suppose is that it's not really a pure zombie movie. I'd say in the hour and a half of this film, 30 minutes is devoted to zombies, and an hour is devoted to the characters. There's never ANY character development in horror movies nowadays! It almost works as a play because of the short time span of the film. There are some actually really gross scenes in this film, but nothing too scary, its campiness does come through from time to time! But it's an accurate depiction of what people would be like were a zombie invasion to happen, angry, shouting, frustrated. You won't see a lot of smiles in "Night of the Living Dead," and that's how it should be!

It's ok for some kids...

Its true that in its day this film was considered gruesome. This is not the 60's. If your children have ever seen a scary movie before, they can handle this. Maybe not the best film for them to see as the first horror movie of their lives, but still probably ok. Its not as gory as ANYTHING to come out in the horror genre since. The only thing you have to worry about is it being able to hold their attention. It's got some "adult" themes like racism and sexism, and most of the "scary" parts are really about tension and apprehension, and it's filmed in black and white, so younger kids are more likely to "not get it" and lose interest than to be terrified. Also, it has some clear messages about the importance of working together as well as using a positive black role model, which, for it's time, is a bigger deal than the shock and gore.

Old or not, this is still the type of film that will give kids nightmares. Not recommended for anyone under 16.

A classic, but somewhat violent

This classic zombie flick has surprisingly good anti-racist messages and is very entertaining. However, there are one or two very violent scenes and there is brief nudity. Still, pretty good.

Many imitators, no equals.

This movie was one of the first horror movies to cast a black man as an intelligent, articulate character instead of a stereotype. The final scenes of the movie are still shocking and effective. On the whole, this is a well-acted movie, but it's too intense for children.
