What's the Story?

In ONE MILE: CHAPTER ONE, an ex-Army operative (Ryan Phillippe) has to fight to survive when a college road trip with his estranged daughter makes an unexpected detour into an off-the-grid kidnapping situation. Outnumbered and alone, he's forced to use his special ops skill set to find and protect his daughter and bring her home.

Predictable and forgettable yet also watchable, One Mile: Chapter One is Ryan Phillippe's midlife crisis comeback film. No longer the Cruel Intentions teen heartthrob, this 50-something actor has Taken a chapter from Liam Neeson's book. What starts out as a potentially engaging ex-special ops survival film quickly takes a nosedive for a thin and plot hole-heavy rescue mission. And while acting as a loving, redeemable father figure bodes well for Phillippe, the action, stunts, and slower footwork don't quite work for the guy who hasn't really done a whole lot of action thrillers as of late.

It doesn't help that Amelie Hoeferle's supporting role is whiny at best, annoying at worst. As an estranged dad with a MacGyver backpack, Ryan Phillippe is fun to watch, but this film overall could have been better.
