What's the Story?

In ROWDY FELLOW, Rana (Nara Rohit) is a rich man with an enormous ego. He doesn't take kindly to being slighted, and after an unpleasant interaction with a rural police chief and the corrupt supporters of a corrupt politician, Rana vows to get even. In order to do this, he joins the police force and eventually gets transferred to the region where his enemies live. However, as he gets revenge, he sees how deep the corruption goes, and how it hurts the local citizens. While trying to get even, Rana also sets out to do his best to make things right, but this challenge is much more than he bargained for.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Kids say : Not yet rated

This is an overlong action, drama, and comedy film that can't really decide what kind of movie it wants to be. Rowdy Fellow clocks in at two hours and fifteen minutes, and there are moments where what should be a simple and absurd tale of an egotistical man's attempts to get even with the law and government ends up being at least 30 minutes longer than it needs to be.

Some of this may be due to the Bollywood style of musical numbers and the like, but not all of it. The whole thing seems needlessly complicated, and the blend of comedy and drama clashes. There are too many characters, and the whole thing is excessive in ways that simply don't work. In other words: Revenge is a dish best served simple.
