A tradition continues, with both old and new lessons.

Red Skelton, as Father Time, did a fine job narrating this special. It seems as though he took a cue from Burl Ives, for Skelton found a balance between narrating Burl Ives's style and using his own style of narration. Children who have trouble understanding the concept of time will have it explained here. A little bit of history is woven into the story as well. There is the lesson that laughing at others can be cruel, just as it was in the original Rudolph special. When Happy, the Baby New Year, goes missing, Rudolph is sent to find him. When Rudolph does, he explains to Happy how important he is. Happy then understands. In the process, viewers are taught how important one person is and how much of a difference one person makes. I would highly recommend this special.
