Funny, crude and different take on the buddy cop formula
Showtime is a 2002 buddy cop comedy about a hard working police officer who accidentally shoots a camera getting him into trouble, making him have to do a tv show for a company whether he likes it or not. While making the film his partner ( who he finds extremely annoying ) isn’t helping.
LANGUAGE: 4/5 one fully said use of “F**k”: “ what the F**k is that supposed to mean?”, a mouthed “F**k you”, etc. other language like many uses of “S**t”, “Bulls**t”, “Dips**t”. “Ass”, “Asshole”, “ass-wipe”, “B*tch”, “Bastard”, “Dick”, “Dick-Head”, “Prick”, “Goddamn”, “Damn”, “Hell”.
SEX: 3/5 no actual sex, just references to “Penises”, “Boobies”, Mitch says a mans house looks like a “Gay porno star" lived there, It is implied Trey did a “Iight” porn before acting and police work. Mitch goes on a date with the producer of the show. Kissing.
VIOLENCE: 3/5 lots of action, shooting to the point of a house collapsing on a man and his girlfriend, a super sized machine guns make big extreme explosions and kills police officers. Near the end there’s a duel between the villain and the heroes, the villain is shot with some blood shown, then the room fills with water and he falls of the edge, Mitch and trey almost too but are miraculously saved. A man is strapped to a plow with his own hand cuffs. A brawl breaks out in a club resulting in punches and shoving through glass from quite a height. A big intense car chase which a lot of entertaining action. Over the top action and explosions.
Drinking drugs and smoking: some social drinking and a man smokes briefly on a tv show whilst acting.
Positive Messages and Role Models: 3/5 good message of team work and friendship which can lead to doing good things. The cast is pretty diverse starring black actors (Eddie Murphy). Pretty good role models Mitch thinks before his actions (mostly) and stays focused In stressful situations.
Cast: “Eddie Murphy”, “Robert De Niro”, “Rene Russo“, “Drena De Niro”, “William Shatner”, “Pedro Damián”, “T.J. Cross”, “Peter Jacobson”, “Mos Def”, “Rachael Harris”.
Director: “Tom Dey”
