I've watched this movie twice, once with a friend and once with my older brother. The scary part of this movie isn't the jumpscares or even the overall scary feeling to it, it isn't even the kind of movie that leaves you feeling scared at night, it's the kind of movie that leaves you thinking at night.
Yes, there is a small amount of gore in this movie, but that's not the bad part of it. I think (personally) the worst part of this movie is how it leaves the worst to our imagination, it kind of scares you in a mental way instead of leaving you jumping because of jumpscares, some may not call it fear, it's more intense than the normal horror movie fear.
My brother, a 15 year old, thought this movie was creepy as hell, and he loves horror movies. However, my friend, who's 14, thought it was really boring and not scary at all. I think that it depends on if you let it get to you, if you're willing to really get into the movie and actually use you head whilst watching it.
I was home alone the night after I watched this, and I wasn't scared, I was just overthinking (I'm a overthinking person) every scene of the movie and how it all fell together so nicely and how it made sense and what happened where the camera didn't film you know, I got dragged into the story. And I actually didn't mind it at all, however it was slightly depressing.
The part about this movie that I didn't like was the actual murders. It made me so uncomfortable when -SPOILER ALERT TO THE FIRST SCENE OF THE MOVIE AND I THINK ITS ACTUALLY IN THE TRAILER ASWELL SO ITS NOT REALLY A SPOILER- you got to see a family tied to a tree and they choked to death, this would be an alright scene if they made it shorter, but when you actually got to see how they kicked slower and slower and then finally just stopped I wanted to puke. -SPOILER THATS NOT REALLY A SPOILER OVER- The music was also horrible and made me so uncomfortable.
It's really hard to rate this movie because it depends on if you only watch a movie and don't really think about it or if you're the kind of person that thinks about what happens in between the scenes, it's an amazing movie but it's really horrifying in a mental way.
Overall: there is a character who becomes an alcoholic, some gore, some jumpscares, no good rolemodels, I think it contains some swearwords but I didn't really think about it. Disturbing murder scenes.
