Somehow this is the eighth installment in the Sniper movie series, a franchise that hasn't troubled movie theaters with its releases since the 1993 original. While there's nothing in Sniper: Assassin's End that hasn't been done before and on a bigger budget, the movie's total lack of pretension makes it enjoyable enough. Present and correct are the usual array of all-American heroes -- with Berenger returning as an elder crack shot to guide his wrongly accused son, Brandon (Collins). Keeping them company are a renegade DHS agent who doesn't mind resorting to violent methods to get answers, and a mysterious international assailant with innovative marksmanship skills to add flourish to the movie's several shoot-outs. The supporting cast is fleshed out by the usual array of beleaguered white collar law enforcement types pulling up profiles on their computers, and some shady pharmaceutical execs with more than a couple of secrets. If you can forgive all the clichés, there's fun to be had along the way. And the shameless setup for another sequel at the end suggests that there's still plenty of appetite out there for more of the same.
