Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Kids say ( 1 ):

A masked killer's many methods of eliminating his victims have nothing on the horrors of team-building activities. At least that's the main joke in The Conference, a Swedish comedic thriller about a group of municipal workers who go on a nightmarish team-building retreat, which becomes even more horrible when a killer starts to hunt them down.

Although it's often witty and entertaining in the ridiculous ways the victims meet their end, director Patrik Eklund fails to see that by drawing so many parallels between the horrors of capitalism and slasher conventions, the film is simply doing way too much. We get it. Capitalism and corporate greed are terrifying. No question about that, so why not focus on the satirical aspects exclusively?
