Great Movie but wish I waited another year!

This movie was very very good. Sharing the true story of the Duchess of Devonshire, and her struggles with marriage. There is a lot of mature content in this movie including a rape scene. Having seen a lot , of what I would consider, inappropriate PG-13 movies this by far would be at the top of that list. I was shocked at how inappropriate this was, and some scenes made me super uncomfortable. Don’t let the rating decide whether or not you should watch this movie yet, do your research! I was surprised that it was not R. However, if you are mature and think you can handle what I have discussed I definitely recommend it. It was very pretty, and all in all a great period drama!

can be disturbing as it explores a realistic depiction of marriage during the time it is set though could be okay for mature 13 year olds.

Although the amazing costumes and beautiful scenery are sure to attract people, you should know that the movie, The Duchess, has some mature content. All of the main characters commit adultery, and there are consequences of this in the form of illegitimate children. There is brief nudity when a maid is seen running from the Dukes rooms, however you only get a brief glimpse of her backside. There are two scenes in which the Duchess is passionately embracing her husband, and in another her lover, and you know what will happen next, however the movie cuts to the next scene. The Duke forces himself upon his wife after a argument, and although you do not see this happen, you can hear some screaming and see the Duchess frightened daughter. This movie also deals with the betrayal of close friends. There is some alcoholism, when the Duchess becomes so drunk that her wig is accidentally set on fire. Although the movie deals with mature themes, it is entertaining and older teens will enjoy.

Love the movie, but...

I was surprised it was not rated R. No swearing or violence, but a lot of sexual stuff. But it does add to the story and it is important you need to know what happened, but still.

It was okay

I guess that there were a few sex senses but nothing too graphic is shown. There is one part when a man rapes his wife after an argument they had, you cant really see much, they just showed what was going on outside which was a worried daughter. The Duchess husband seems to be very selfish and he has many affairs with other women. I don't understand why it says this has no great message or great roll models because The duchess seemed to love all her children (including stepchild) equally, in a scene the Duchess has the choice to leave her children and stay with her lover or leave her lover and go back with the Dutch, she decides to give up her romance for her children.

Good movie but...

Honestly that rape scene is a little much for young children.

Not for children

they would not be interested in it anyway because of the serious tone carried throughout the movie. The rape scene was hard on me it was really sad and not at all what I'd want to show children, although you don't see anything it has a ton of screaming and you see her being forced on the bed and then you see her on the bed and him getting up and zipping his pants. Like the information says it does have a ton of sex and some themes that children shouldn't be seeing because of how influenceable they are at a young age. Affairs are also a common theme in this movie.

Superb

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Keira Knightly is a very talented actress. Parts of the movie were deep, it explored her personal feelings. One scene includes were her husband seduces her against her will which might put some people off
