An Overlooked Classic

One of the best rankin/bass films (the hobbit being absolute top of the list for me). This is truly wonderful - my son was too young to grasp all the nuances of the science/magic dichotomy but it doesn’t matter. It’s captivating on a lot of levels - simply one of the best dragon movies ever made. Some violence, and sex is alluded to. I can’t recommend it enough.

Best animated film about dragons that I've ever seen.

This Rankin/Bass classic is one of their best films ever, hands-down! This film is great for everyone, young and old! Nothing else to say but, go ahead and watch it yourself! You will not be disappointed! :-)

Scariness A Problem, Great Story & Message Though

The animation was a little scary when I first watched it as a kid. The graphics are simple but very detailed like a Arthur Rickman illustration. So when there is a closeup of characters whether good guy or bad guy, it makes for a sometimes chilling and frightening watch for kids. Overall though after I watched it as an adult, the story has some positive messages for kids about picking science over magic, using magic as a motivator for our hopes, dreams, and work, and whether the main villian is any indication of the society we live in and people we have become.
