The Last Supper
What's the Story?
THE LAST SUPPER reimagines the life of Jesus (Jamie Ward) and his disciples in the last days of their ministry, when doubts, fears, and betrayal hang in the balance leading up to that final fateful meal between friends. Narrated by Peter (James Oliver Wheatley), the story covers a few of Jesus' last miracles and preachings of love and hope before his arrest, crucifixion, and resurrection. It also highlights the tension between the 12 disciples as they battle their own inner demons—and each other.
Is It Any Good?
Despite having the inspired casting of Robert Knepper as Judas—aka the "bad guy that audiences love"—this reimagined Jesus story is ultimately unoriginal and forgettable. With no nuanced offering to give viewers insight or a twist on anything they likely don't already know about Jesus or his disciples, The Last Supper falls flat. Knepper's multidimensional performance as Judas is bogged down by the work of his one-dimensional co-stars; this is yet another low-budget Jesus drama that's missing the memorable "drama" part. But if you're looking for a safer, more classic take on the story that's a few notches below The Passion of the Christ's level of violence, The Last Supper may appeal to your family.
