A Great Movie...

The Shallows was a great movie that stars Blake Lively. This movie is super adrenalized and fast paced. The swearing was NOT to Good Due to the F bomb. But it is nothing a 13 year old shouldn't be able to handle. There is a fair amount of Blood and a half eaten Body, but other than that, it was a fantastic movie.

Great movie for older teens!

- scary previews so be warned - lots of jump scares, but you can mostly tell by the music when one is near - thoroughly enjoyable - not too much language, only one F-bomb dropped and one use of "s--t" - some gory scenes such as (SPOILER ALERT) whale carcass, intoxicated man getting bit in half, her stitching up her leg, surfers getting eaten) - if you can handle a little gore (or just look away!) you will be in a great position to see one of the best movies of the summer

Smart, and very entertaining, tense ocean thriller is very bloody and violent but great and realistic.

This bloody ocean thriller focus's on a young med school drop out, Nancy Adams. After her mother dies in the hospital, she visits a beautiful beach in Mexico to mourn her mother and surf. She meets two guys who are really nice, and she is really having an amazing time. When it becomes dark, the two guys leave, but Nancy wants to hit one more wave before she leaves. Suddenly, she feels a bump on her board, and she falls in the water, when she climbs back up, a huge great white shark bits her leg, and she is pulled down into the water. After the attack, she swims.. and swims until she reaches a small rock 200 yards from shore. Now, Nancy must plan when it's going to be low tide, and high tide, and when she finds a buoy, she has an amazing idea that might just save her from the big great white. Meantime, she calls for help by screaming and yelling, but when the surfers try to come and help her, do they survive? It's up to Nancy and others to stay alive, and because she is smart and strong, she might be able to get back to shore, alive or not. Violence 4/5: Strong, constant peril including plenty of blood, shark attacks, brutal wounds, and shocking bite marks. Nancy is bit on the leg by a shark and it bleeds frequently as she tries to stitch it with rocks and a necklace as she screams. Two surfers attempt to save Nancy and one of them is snatched and attacked by the shark, and the other is dragged under the water and doesn't come up (we later see a video of him and the shark under the water, and it ends when the shark eats him). We see another surfer attempting to rescue Nancy and then suddenly, Nancy's face is seen and she is crying and screaming, implying that he was brutally attacked. A man climbs up onto the beach and we see his body ripped in two pieces with his legs ripped from his body, as blood flows for his chest and he screams. Nancy is stung by jellyfish as she screams, and the disgusting wound is seen. Nancy is bashed against coral in the water several times, which stings and hurts her as she screams, and yells. Very gory: Disgusting, ripped up dead bodies. Three characters killed by a shark. Sad moment where Nancy records a video as she thinks she's about to die. Horrifying, scary jump shocks/scares. Gory dead whale in the water. Nancy resets a birds wing with blood and the bird screaming. Nancy attacks the shark in many ways, including shooting a gun at it, burning it with a fire gun, stabbing it with metal, stinging it with coral and jellyfish, and even smashing it at the bottom of the coral, all with plenty of blood. Nancy is attacked by waves, and snatched at by a shark. Bloody cuts and wounds. Screaming. Crab attacks. Throwing up blood. Sexual content and nudity 2/5: Although there is no sexual content, there is a bit of cleavage and brief nudity. Nancy is seen in bra's/underwear/swimming suits, and other swim gear which shows off her cleavage. Nancy briefly takes off her top revealing a bit of her bare bottom and naked breasts. Language 4/5: Nancy swears a bit, and she does say "f--k," and "s--t," a few times while battling the shark. Sometimes very hard to hear though. Drinking and drugs 2/5: A man is seen passed out on the beach with an empty bottle of vodka. Nancy's friend can't go surfing with her because she's too drunk and high. References to alcohol and drinking. Although this movie is very entertaining, exciting, and smart, the bloody, horrifying violence and strong language makes this thriller for older teens. My rating:R for bloody violence including frightening images, language, and some sexual references including brief nudity.

Great intense ocean thriller !

Great shark- thriller with Blake Lively . Her acting is really good and dramatic. The film contains several intense scenes with a few deaths . Blood is shown but not over the top gore. There's some swearing but the film has positive role models and messages. Has great special effects and visual.

What Kids and Parents Should Know

I thought the movie was really good! There was a lot of blood including: cuts, bites, and a body half eaten. There was some swearing, but not a lot. There were a couple times where I even jumped. If your child or you, gets scared easily, I strongly consider not seeing this movie.

Mediocre movie.

Alright, so many people thought this was an intense movie. A taught thriller. An enjoyable movie of survival. It was none of these things in truth though. There were no jump scares, and the shark rarely even shows itself until the end of the film. Its an overly long movie about Blake Lively surviving a shark, and its not even a true story. Its bloody, with some relatively disturbing images, and the ending just kinda flopped. One F word and thats the extent of the language, and Blake Lively walks around ina bikini the whole movie, but outside of that, the contents pretty light. Not for kids necessarily, but not really worth watching either.

If you can handle the gore than its a great movie!

The movie was great but do not watch it if you can't handle blood. There was a lot of blood and gruesome scenes in this movie Including Nancy (Blake Lively) closing up her shark bite with her jewellery while blood poured out the cuts. At one point a guy gets attacked by the shark and you see him drag himself out of the water with only half a body and then die. A couple of surfers get pulled under by the shark and don't return but these weren't very gruesome because there wasn't any blood or wounds that you see, except for the water turning red. There is also a dead whale floating around and well it wasn't pretty but it wasn't gruesome. Nancy gets multiple smaller injuries throughout the movie. Nancy also swears twice (I think) she says the f word and sh-t but most 13 year olds can handle a bit of swearing. There is also a drunk guy but 13 year olds understand alcohol and drinking, and its effects. I found that there were great messages of not giving up and fighting to the end. Nancy is a powerful and determined young woman and she is a strong character. Basically if this is your type of movie than you will love it! If you can't handle blood, violence, dead bodies and gore than that's fine but this movie is not for you. I personally really loved the movie. My final review/rating; If you like this type of movie and can handle the gore than you will love it!

Ok movie

This movie was ok. It wasn’t very interesting though and didn’t really have a plot. Also there was lots of violence and blood. I think it was good though because the girl showed perseverance.

Amazing!!! (Small spoiler!

It was very, very good! Lot's of blood, and there is one scene where a drunk guy's bottom half of his body is bitten off. He is seen crawling on the sand with just his waist up. I watched this with my cousin and best friend, and we all LOVED it!! It was gory, and if you can't handle blood or violence, I don't suggest it! I suggest that parents watch it before the kids do, but it is REALLY, REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!

Rated 14 (strong threat, bloody injury detail).

SEX/NUDITY - The main character wears a bikini, which reveals some cleavage. VIOLENCE/GORE - There is some moderate violence, when the shark attacks unsuspecting people and sometimes the main character. One scene involves bloody injury detail, in which a girl gets severely bitten by the shark on her leg and must perform self-surgery. This scene contains a lot of detail and close ups of her bloody wound. There is also a brief gory image involving the aftermath of a shark attack where a man is bitten in half, however there is limited detail. PROFANITY - There is infrequent use of strong language (f**k), and occasional use of milder terms (s**t). DRINKING/DRUGS/SMOKING - A drunk man is seen on a beach and drops an empty bottle of alcohol. THREAT/HORROR - There are many moments of strong threat (most of which involve a shark), but are occasionally lightened by humour and the protagonist's continuous will to survive. The film also contains some moderate horror involving the sudden appearance of the shark.
