What's the Story?

THIRUCHITRAMBALAM follows a simple, naive lad looking for love while juggling the loss of his family members, and a failing relationship with his father. Thiruchitrambalam (Dhanush) is only supported by his grandfather (Bharathiraja) and his childhood best friend, Shobana (Nithya Menen), who stands with him through thick and thin. Will Thiruchitrambalam be able to let go of his past and discover the true love of his life?

This romantic drama directed by Mithran Jawahar is a dreamy and emotional ride that entertains to the core while panning across Chennai. Thiruchitrambalam is a simple tale, yet has a refreshing take on the familiar girl/guy next door story. Menen's brilliant acting skills and heartwarming expressions shine throughout. Further, the film's chirpy tunes are accompanied by Dhanush's soothing voice, both of which add layers of delight to the viewing experience. The film does a great job of exploring fatherhood as well. Male characters break patriarchal norms and are unapologetically earnest in their display of emotions -- vulnerability, fear, pain, and grief, all are expressed intimately and introspectively. This enjoyable film is a must-watch for those who can never get enough of Dhanush.
