What's the Story?

In TIME TRAVEL IS DANGEROUS, vintage shop owners Ruth (Ruth Syratt) and Megan (Megan Stevenson) keep their shop well stocked by using a time machine they found. But when their frequent use causes rifts in time, strange things start to happen and a local science group must club together for a rescue mission.

The mockumentary genre spawned a handful of classic shows and movies, and the blueprint set by the likes of the U.K. TV show The Office remains a standard. Quirky British sci-fi movie Time Travel Is Dangerous takes only the negative tones of this style of format, with a cast of selfish and rude characters, whose deadpan, detached manner creates unease and concern instead of comedy. The frequent swearing and cruel characters don't match the light and whimsical fantasy story and when its characters finally learn their lessons and get happy endings, the journey makes any joy redundant. Anyone tired of cliches should steer clear of this time machine that captures the last few decades of relentlessly selfish characters. It lacks the heart, witty writing, and emotional connection the genre needs to make it work.
