What's the Story?

TOASTER follows Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao), a miserly man who gifts a toaster at a wedding, only to demand it back when the wedding is called off. When he discovers the toaster has already been given away, he sets off to retrieve it, unwittingly pulling him into a web of chaos, conspiracy, and murder.

This lighthearted Bollywood dark comedy with thriller elements refuses to take anything—even murder—seriously, and asks its audience to do the same. Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, Toaster is breezy and occasionally charming, but ultimately forgettable. Its plot and pacing fall short, and a mid-movie twist proves to be the film's most dramatic moment, with little of excitement happening thereafter. Despite a capable cast—including Rao, Sanya Malhotra, and Archana Puran Singh—the attempts at dark humor feel cheap rather than genuinely funny, leaving the film's moral message about the perils of miserliness without much weight behind it.
