What's the Story?

In TODAY WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT DAY, Narendra (Jourdy Pranata) and Ajeng (Yunita Siregar) love each other and want to make it work, but Ajeng's father is disapproving and wants his daughter to commit to her arranged marriage that isn't with Narendra. Meanwhile, in the present day, much older Narendra struggles to console and mentor his adult son, who has his own marriage problems.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

Unfortunately, this romantic drama treads overly familiar territory telling a story that's not very innovative, new, or unique. The basic plot of Today We'll Talk About That Day is long in the tooth but is still treated with a sense of novelty. Roughly, a young couple, Narendra and Ajeng, wants to be together, but the woman's overbearing and controlling father wants her to marry for money, so they must defy his wishes and make it on their own, the latter of which comprises 10 minutes of the film. The title doesn't fit well either, in that there isn't really a specific or particular day in question that needs to be talked about.

Further, the present-day story about Narendra and his now-adult son doesn't quite work. The two time periods certainly want to draw a connection to one another, but their relevance seems forced. In short, the present-day story simply doesn't seem needed and could have been cut entirely. The film's last half hour could have also been cut, as once Ajeng defies her father for good, not much more needs to be said.
