Tonight You’re Sleeping With Me
What's the Story?
In TONIGHT YOU'RE SLEEPING WITH ME, Nina (Roma Gasiorowska) is a devoted mom, journalist, and wife in a loveless marriage to Maciek (Wojciech Zielinkski). When former lover Janek (Maciej Musial), who is much younger than she is, comes back into her life, Nina is tempted to take the leap out of a situation where she feels stuck into a new, more fulfilling relationship. But circumstances might not allow her to go for what she wants for herself.
Is It Any Good?
Star Gasiorowska elevates this Polish melodrama that is otherwise weighed down by an overly contrived script. The excessively expository opening act of Tonight You're Sleeping With Me includes a series of hokey flashbacks to the star-crossed lovers' original affair. The film then tries to build their relationship back up too quickly, with some rushed editing that makes the viewer feel they've missed something between scenes. Meanwhile, sequences of the husband's solo trek in Iceland are awkwardly spliced in, especially a poorly-acted monologue from a fellow hiker in a mountain station. Through it all, Gasiorowska -- and, to a lesser degree, Musial -- keep their composure in character and make their love story minimally believable.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what choice Nina makes at the end of Tonight You're Sleeping With Me. Is her next step clear? Why or why not?
The men in Nina's life seem to feel they know better than she does what's right for her. Where do you see this in the film?
