What's the Story?

In TOO OLD FOR FAIRY TALES 2, Waldek (Maciej Karas) and his friends Delfina (Amelia Fijalkowska) and Staszek (Patryk Siemek) go to the Tatra Mountains for the summer. They stay with Waldek's Aunt Mariola (Dorota Kolak). When they arrive, Mariola takes away their laptops so they can enjoy time outside with Waldek's mom, Teresa (Karolina Gruszka), and her boyfriend, Piotr (Pawel Domagala). Waldek and his friends are not happy about losing their laptops, but their summer takes an exciting turn when they find out that Waldek's real dad, Krzysztof (Michal Zurawski), lives nearby. Waldek and Staszek sneak out to find him, having adventures along the way, like facing wild animals and spending a scary night in a cemetery. When they finally meet Waldek's dad, who is a game designer, they start to bond over their love for video games. However, Staszek doesn't trust him, and it turns out there's a good reason for that.

Too Old for Fairy Tales 2 is a pleasant follow-up to the 2022 Polish film, although one might question whether a sequel was truly necessary. This time around, we find Waldek and his friends Delfina and Staszek on an adventure in the Tatra Mountains, where they seek to find Waldek's biological father. The plot may feel familiar, especially with its theme of a child discovering that a long-lost parent isn't who they expected, but it remains engaging.

The movie touches on themes of family, friendship, and self-discovery. Waldek's journey to find his father is filled with humorous mishaps and heartwarming moments, making it relatable for viewers, especially those in blended families. Piotr, Waldek's stepfather, starts off as an annoying character, trying to look cool with the kids by citing the Urban Dictionary, but grows to be quite endearing. The scenic backdrop of the Tatra Mountains, combined with the engaging performances of the young cast and the comical side characters, adds charm to the film. While it may not break new ground, Too Old for Fairy Tales 2 provides a cozy and entertaining escape that both kids and parents can appreciate.
