This documentary provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the rise and fall of American Apparel. In many ways, Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel is an example of how easy a charismatic businessperson can captivate, charm, and take advantage of others. But while this case study points to particular reasons the company failed, this film should also be about the fall of the company's creator and former CEO, Dov Charney. Unfortunately, he seems to have escaped career harm and criminal justice, having recently found a home at Kanye West's Yeezy clothing brand. But at least journalism, documentary filmmaking, and popular opinion can give some kind of collective voice to women who have been silenced.
