Vijay 69
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In VIJAY 69, Vijay is 69 years old and looking back on his life. He starts feeling like he hasn't done anything noteworthy. But with encouragement and support of his friends, he sets off on a quest to accomplish something remarkable.
Is It Any Good?
This dramatic comedy has some heart and a bit of charm. While Vijay 69 can't quite go the full distance without getting a little tired, the journey is still pleasant. Beyond overstaying its welcome a tiny speck (coming in at just under two hours), it offers enough to compel most audiences to the finish line. For one, Vijay faces different kinds of barriers and opposition to his even attempting a triathlon. Some members of his family are not supportive, some members of the community think it's a lawsuit waiting to happen, others think his training alone will kill him, and the media turn on him at various points—and still a more nefarious opponent also stands in his way.
So, when Vijay finally gets his chance, most viewers will be invested, having endured the occasional dips in the film. Some might not fully be on board with the comedy, which seems at least partially dependent on particular cultural references and specifics. Further, opinions will vary regarding Vijay's penchant for cursing, often using the curse word "chutiye." But throughout the film, the tone is still silly, heartfelt, and playful, only occasionally delving into more saccharine territory.
