Another Masterpiece by Makoto Shinkai
(This review is spoiler FREE)
If you liked Your Name, the most popular movie by Makoto Shinkai, then you’ll definitely like this too, but don’t expect it to be exactly like Your Name, because this movie has no big twist like Your Name, if you feel that Your Name lacked in the romance aspect, then this film is for you, it would definitely satisfy your desire to watch the development of two people’s relationship. Tenki no Ko (Weathering with You) follows the journey of two young protagonists, Hina, who can stop rainy weather, and Hodaka, who ran away from his home, to Tokyo. The story centers around the relationship of these two characters, since it is a romance/fantasy movie. If you don’t like romance because it’s cheesy for you, then don’t worry, this film has nothing cheesy, to the average person at least. Weathering with You has stunning visuals, as you’d expect from a Shinkai film. The soundtrack also lives up to expectations and helps set up the mood and atmosphere necessary for certain scenes.
The main character (Hodaka) finds a gun in a restaurant and points it at people at multiple scenes. A man also trips him. That’s all that is needed to be mentioned, otherwise there are just a few mildly violent scenes because of police chases.
Hodaka looks at a woman’s figure/breasts in some scenes and the viewpoint makes it impossible not to focus on the woman’s figure. Reference to working in an inappropriate job to earn money. Hina takes off her robe to show something, which I will not mention since it may give away important plot points. Nothing graphic is shown.
Very few bad words
One character likes smoking. Other scenes may possibly involve drinking and drugs but I can’t remember...
Consumerism: is that even important?
