What's the Story?

In YOUR CHRISTMAS OR MINE?, after meeting on their drama course, James (Asa Butterfield) and Hayley (Cora Kirk) head to the train station to say their sad goodbyes before setting off to join the respective families. Though heading back home in different directions, on different trains, in an impulsive moment of romance, James jumps off his, to join Hayley. But what he doesn't realize, is that Hayley's done the exact same thing. Meaning they are both setting off to their partner's houses, and given the snowy weather, simply returning to their own homes is not straightforward.

This British Christmas romcom thrives on its simple, yet effective premise. With its positive, festive-themed messages, celebrating love, family, and everything in between, Your Christmas or Mine? is easy to indulge in. There are no surprises here, with the stories following a familiar structure so associated with films set around the holidays. As young couple James and Hayley's two very different worlds collide -- Hayley finding herself spending Christmas at James' "royal" household without James as he's stuck with Hayley's more "modest" family -- the movie tries to show that love knows no boundaries. While a little heavy-handed at times and both sets of families leaning heavily into stereotypes, it's a message that feels apt for the season.
