What's the Story?

ZIAM is set in a near-future Thailand facing the aftermath of a climate-related famine. The story follows Singh (Mark Prin Suparat), a former Muay Thai fighter who now works as a delivery driver. When a zombie outbreak suddenly spreads through the city, Singh must fight his way into a quarantined hospital to rescue his girlfriend Rin (Nychaa Nuttanicha), a doctor, and a young boy named Buddy (Vayla Wanvayla Boonnithipaisit). As the zombie infection spreads and society begins to collapse, Singh confronts both human and zombie threats while trying to save the woman he loves and survive chaos.

Is It Any Good?

This Thai zombie action film starts with chaos and barely lets up. Ziam throws you straight into a world overrun by the undead and doesn't waste much time building worlds or explaining itself. The zombie formula is familiar, but the film makes it work thanks to tightly choreographed action sequences that are inventive and visually striking. Hero Singh comes across as a true one-man army, leaping and smashing through scenes with brutal force. He's magnetic on-screen but thinly written, a video game warrior more than a character.

What gives the film its emotional weight is the connection between Rin and Buddy. Nychaa Nuttanicha brings quiet strength and compassion to Rin, embodying moral clarity amid destruction. Vayla Wanvayla Boonnithipaisit's performance as Buddy is unexpectedly powerful. While the film is far too violent for younger kids, older teens might enjoy the fast pacing and game-like intensity, and parents could connect with the emotional core.

  • What can you learn from the way Buddy handles tragedy at such a young age?

  • How do you think greed shows up in the film? How did greed contribute to creating the post-apocalyptic setting?
