What's It About?
TEEN GIRL TALK's hosts, Franklin and Susie Cota, aren't actually teen girls; instead they're two adult siblings chatting about all things teen media. Episodes are a little over an hour long and are released weekly. In each episode, the pair pick about a piece of mainstream media that is generally targeted to teen girls. Chosen media can be recently released or vintage, and frequently focuses on the horror/thriller genre. They couple this analysis with casual conversation about their daily lives and their own thoughts on other forms of media; any topic is up for grabs in this pod.
Is It Any Good?
Opening every episode with a Riot Grrrl anthem, Bikini Kill's "Rebel Girl," this pod promises to break down teen media in a raw and honest way—and they do deliver on this. Teen Girl Talk is casual, relatable, and genuine. That said, parents may feel misled by adults narrating a podcast named Teen Girl Talk, and the content is just mature enough to possibly raise a few red flags. And structurally, it's a bit messy and hard to follow if the listener isn't already familiar with the media being discussed. The conversations may also be too surface-level for parents to consider it educational for their kids. But overall, this pod is a fun listen if you're a fan of what the two have chosen to discuss on any given episode.
