6ixtynin9: The Series
What's the Story?
6IXTYNIN9, a television adaptation of the award-winning 1999 Thai film of the same name, follows a young woman who unexpectedly ends up dealing with the criminal underworld. Toom (Mai-Dakila Hoorne) was laid off from her job at an insurance company due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. While moping about what she's going to do next, someone unexpectedly leaves a box filled with cash at her doorstep. The catch? Whoever left it mistook her place as apartment number 9 because a loose screw caused the number 6 on her door to hang upside down. When two gangsters show up at her door searching for their money, unfortunate, strange, and violent events follow.
Is It Any Good?
The character-driven black comedy series offers an updated adaptation of the 1999 film that manages to stay true to creator and director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang's original story. Despite some of the predictability that comes with most crime thrillers, the main cast is colorful and well-developed, and there's enough weirdness to create the unexpected. It's not for everyone, but 6ixtynin9: The Series offers a unique way of transforming a traditional gangster tale into something unique and offbeat.
Talk to Your Kids About ...

In what ways does 6ixtynin9: The Series challenge the way crime stories are told? Are these challenges obvious, or are there subtle details that take a while to notice?
