What's the Story?

From the producers of Beckham comes 99, a docuseries about Manchester United's historic 1998-99 season. With the help of the team manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, and players like David Beckham, Roy Keane, and Andy Cole, it chronicles how the Manchester United FC Squad successfully won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League within a span of 10 days. Archive footage of the events that took place on and off the pitch before and throughout the winning season is also featured.

Soccer fans will delight in this nostalgic narrative about the first English team to win a treble, or three trophies in a single season. Archive footage, some of which is being shown for the first time in 99, shows winning moments, disappointing match defeats, and behind-the-scenes work and team building leading up to, and during, the 1998-99 season. Interviews with some of the club coaches and players from that time reflect on those challenges, and discuss how they overcame them to deliver the legendary 10-day winning streak. This, combined with action-packed game footage, makes 99 worth the watch if you enjoy the sport, especially if you're a Manchester United loyalist.

  • Did you know that European football was originally called "association football," and that newspapers used the term "soccer" to shorten the word "association"? Why do you think the U.S. is the only country to use the term today?
