Aaron Rodgers: Enigma
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
AARON RODGERS: ENIGMA is a three-part documentary series that delves into controversial champion football player Aaron Rodgers' life on and off the field. After rupturing his achilles tendon after starting with the New York Jets, the NFL quarterback looks back at his early career while hoping to make a late comeback. He shares his thoughts about his family, his spiritual explorations, and his controversial stances about religion, science and other issues. He also talks about the challenges he had with past dating relationships. Rodgers also offers his thoughts about how media has distorted his personal narratives over the years. Interviews with folks like former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, former NFL Seattle Hawks running back Marshawn Lynch, and personal friend Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. also round out the retrospective. Archive footage of past Superbowls, childhood moments, spiritual journeys, and other events are also featured.
Is It Any Good?
This long and predictable sports docuseries gives the outspoken (and at times, self-aggrandizing) Aaron Rodgers the platform to talk about the highs and lows of his life and career. In Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, he unapologetically discusses his different philosophies about life, which are sometimes not in-line with popular or mainstream ideas or beliefs, and some of which have negatively impacted his reputation. Meanwhile, an on-camera conversation between Rodgers and Brett Favre helps clear the air about their rocky association while playing for Green Bay. Despite all this, Aaron Rodgers: Enigma lacks the depth, energy, or climactic moments to make it interesting or compelling enough for most audiences to watch. Instead, what it delivers is as flat as it is self-promotional. But diehard Rodgers fans may find it worth streaming.
