All sports documentaries have heart, but this series boasts a survivor's soul. Adaptive conveys the grit and fortitude that athletes possess to rise to the top of their field. The deeper meaning attached to accepting and overcoming physical challenges is especially embraced here.

Utter determination sometimes gets the better of the athletes in this show. More interesting moments arise when the vulnerability behind the steely-eyed competitors shines through, reminding these challengers that sports are supposed to be fun after all.
