Great watch with the family. Nothing explicit in it but the show does involve dealing with sick animals. They don't show much but things are implied.

A family classic!

Watched the original as a child with my family and have such fond memories. The new series is just as good. We've watched an episode every Sunday night and my two boys age 11 and 13 have really enjoyed the story lines and period setting. Lots of smiles and laughter as we got to know the characters (and their foibles.)

Amazing

A beautiful show in a beautiful setting. Entertaining and even slightly educational as people will learn about animals along the way. James is a great role model who is patient and learns from his mistakes. A bit of innuendo but not much. Some vet scenes might frighten younger children. (Pus, blood etc.) but nothing too graphic. There is a bit of language but just mild. Great TV show for the whole family

This is a great family series

My 10-year old and 14 year old love this show. It was my favorite book as a child. I highly recommend it and only wish I could find more shows like this one.

Absolutely fantastic drama - shame about the swearing

This is an amazing production with great writing, great acting, great design, great production values. Absolutely 10/10 for quality. The story follows the mild peril of a 1930s farm veterinary practice, in which most animals (and people) turn out to be absolutely fine by the end of the episode. There is occasional very minor gore, usually implied offscreen, and in one episode the main character kills a horse (offscreen, in a controlled veterinary manner). There is a charming romance between the main character and a woman of his acquaintance which is all very chaste. One of the other vets in the practice is a bit of a "player", going on a lot of dates, but it doesn't get any further than kissing. And, in general, the other characters disapprove of him and try to get him to change his ways. However, there is a surprising amount of "language" for what seems like such a family-friendly show. Not serious swearing, but really a lot of mild bad language. Lots of taking of the Lord's name in vain, "bloody", "damn" - that sort of thing. I was rather disappointed by this, as I felt that with more thoughtful writing the same emotions could be conveyed without using such language. It is mainly the language that means I won't be allowing my children to watch it for some time yet, which is a shame.
