Melodramatic yet boring Brazilian teen drama; some sex.

All the Same... or Not
What's the Story?
In STILL THE SAME... OR NOT, Carolina's friends have just returned from visiting Bruno's aunt in America. Meanwhile she's dealing with her mom's pressure to be friends with her fiancee's son, Tomas. Things get tricky when Carolina's two worlds collide and Tomas is introduced into her friend group. Will anything stay the same for her last year of high school?
Is It Any Good?
A lack of compelling dialogue and any trace of humor makes this Brazilian import a snoozefest for teen viewers. All the Same... or Not is a coming of age story based on the YA novel Na porta ao lado, by Brazilian writer Luly Trigo, set in the sun-soaked setting of Brazil and centering on a group of high school seniors. The show explores the usual teenage romantic drama, but also refreshingly focuses on the girls' ambitions after high school. This could be a good fit for pre-teen audiences looking for something with a larger world view than just America, if it weren't for the mature themes around sex. In the end, the show's biggest flaws are over-the-top storylines with flat writing and acting, making for a mostly bland watch.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the representation of teenage romance and sexuality in All the Same... Or Not and how it compares to real-life experiences.
Since this series is filmed in Brazil, English speaking audiences need to use either subtitles or dubbing to watch it. Which do you prefer and why? Do you think the translation takes anything away from the show? Why or why not?
How does Carolina's mother display compassion toward her? Why is this an important part of a loving relationship?
