What's the Story?
Set against the backdrop of a notorious 1994 cult incident in the French Alps, ANTHRACITE picks up three decades later. The story follows a journalist's (Jean-Marc Barr) disappearance while investigating the cult, prompting his web-savvy daughter (NoƩmie Schmidt) to embark on a dangerous quest to find him. Complex mysteries unravel linked to the cult's sinister past and possible resurgence.
Is It Any Good?
A dark drama that struggles to deliver a coherent narrative, marred by choppy storytelling and lackluster dialogue. While the French Alps setting of Anthracite offers a stunning backdrop and the premise hints at intrigue, the execution falls flat with unconvincing character portrayals and erratic tonal shifts. The attempt to blend dark themes with technological sleuthing feels forced, resulting in a series that feels both chaotic and amateurish. The jarring portrayals of violence and dark themes overshadow any potential for a compelling mystery, leaving much to be desired in both character development and plot progression.
