What's the Story?

Set in a peaceful post-war era, ARPO centers around a former military robot repurposed as a nanny for a small family. The series follows Arpo's attempts to adapt to domestic life and care for a baby, often resulting in comedic chaos.

Disappointingly dated and containing too much real-world peril for its preschool target audience. The South Korean-Malaysian CGI series, Arpo, badly misses the mark with a lack of positive messaging and by being overly scary. Furthermore, the attitudes and interactions of the family members do not set very good examples. These include an overly demanding mother, a careless father and multiple examples of family members ignoring each other's needs. When scrolling through options, this is one parents of preschoolers should skip.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about Arpo as a starting point to explain the difference between real life and the stories we see on TV. Ask your kids what they think about Arpo's adventures and if they can tell which parts are make-believe.

  • Some episodes of Arpo touch on scenarios like fires or strangers trying to enter the home. This can be an opportunity to gently introduce the concept of safety and what to do in an emergency, in a way that's reassuring rather than scary.
