What's the Story?

AS1ONE: THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN POP MUSIC JOURNEY follows the journey of boyband group As1one. From James Diener and Ken Levitan going to Israel for their talent search, to eventually choosing Nadav Philips, Niv Lin, Aseel Farah, Ohad Attia, Sadik Dogosh and Neta Rozenblat. The band's excitement shifts when they finally move to LA on October 6th, and the very next day they are informed of the chaos, violence, and unrest happening back home. Throughout the series, the boys hone their talents and skills, while learning about each other, their cultures, and whether they can maintain peace despite coming from backgrounds that historically clash.

This series struggles to find its pitch within a unique concept. AS1One: The Israeli Palestinian Pop Music Journey is original, yet sporadic and wayward at times. It's incredibly topical, and well-meaning with its message about unity; but it tells the audience about it more than showing it. While the band members struggle to listen to each other and reckon with their home countries, the creative team and producers do whatever they need to keep the project going. The language and upsetting news stories make this suitable for older teens. Despite this, the show could be a starting point for topics about history and culture with teens.
