What's the Story?

BABANBA BANBAN VAMPIRE follows the relationship between the vampire Ranmaru Mori (voiced by Daisuke Namikawa) and his friend and future meal Rihito Tatsuno (voiced by Yūsuke Kobayashi). When Rihito falls in love for the first time, Ranmaru goes on a mission to keep Rihito a virgin—and preserve how his blood will taste when he finally turns 18.

This fantasy romantic comedy is hard to actually find funny since most of the humor is based on an uncomfortable premise. Ranmaru's obsession with Rihito's "purity" and the way he manipulates things behind the scenes is predatory grooming behavior. The fantasy aspects might be able to hand-wave the age gap. However, the lying, violence, and constant sexualization make it hard to overlook the lack of consent.

There are maybe a couple interesting things about the Tatsuno family's closeness and the friendship developments between the teen characters. However, they're too easily overshadowed to redeem the show as a whole.
