What's the Story?

An expansion of the Money Heist universe, this prequel series follows the early criminal exploits of the eccentric jewel thief Berlin. Picking up after his previous caper in Money Heist: Berlin, BERLIN AND THE LADY WITH THE ERMINE finds him and his crew in Seville, Spain. When a powerful duke attempts to blackmail the gang into pulling off an art heist, Berlin decides to make the blackmailer his next mark, initiating a dangerous game of cat and mouse where no one can be trusted.

This installment trades the gritty, life-or-death stakes of the original Money Heist for a more playful, Ocean's Eleven-style caper. The beautiful Spanish backdrops, high-octane action, and the slow unraveling of the crew's backstories provide plenty of surface-level entertainment in Berlin and the Lady with the Ermine. However, the writing is surprisingly simplistic, frequently over-explaining the plot to the audience in a way that feels tedious rather than clever. Furthermore, the show leans heavily on archaic gender roles and predictable tropes. While die-hard action fans will get what they came for, there is very little substance beneath the glossy exterior.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families watching Berlin and the Lady with the Ermine can talk about revenge. Discuss how the show framed Candela's actions as a respectable act of revenge. Why is it dangerous when media portrays extreme violence or lack of safety as justified?

  • Berlin and his crew base their entire lives around wanting and stealing luxury items. Do you think having fancy cars or villas bring real, lasting happiness, or do you think it create a cycle of never feeling satisfied?
