What's the Story?

BILLIONAIRES' BUNKER follows a group of wealthy elites who retreat into an opulent underground shelter after being told a global catastrophe has occurred. Among them are Max Varela (Pau Simon), a man haunted by guilt over a past accident; Asia (Alícia Falcó), who grows increasingly suspicious of the bunker's true purpose; Frida (Natalia Verbeke), a matriarch guarding family secrets; and Minerva (Miren Ibarguren), the manipulative figure pulling strings behind the scenes. As paranoia, affairs, and power struggles intensify, the residents begin to question not only their survival but also whether the disaster outside is real—or part of a larger deception.

This glossy thriller has the high production value viewers expect from a Netflix original. The setting of Billionaires' Bunker has the expected sleek architecture, dramatic lighting, and campy costumes that recall the iconic imagery of Money Heist. And like Squid Game, the series leans heavily into the creation of an elaborate underground world meant to be immersive and unsettling. On the surface, there's no shortage of visual ambition: colorful sets, polished cinematography, and the sense of a fully fleshed-out world designed to captivate.

But in a market already saturated with dystopian thrillers, Billionaires' Bunker feels like an unnecessary entry—overly melodramatic at times and hampered by weak performances that make intended moments of gravitas come off as cringeworthy. There's some heart and craft behind the scenes, but in the end, audiences looking for another sharp, high-stakes Netflix experience will likely walk away disappointed.
