wow

If you’re a parent reading this,, PLEASE let your child watch Inside. As a teen who has been struggling with mental health for as long as I can remember, this special really hit home. I waited a little bit after it came out to make sure I was in a good enough place mentally to watch it, due to what I had heard about it being very relatable on a mental level, and this was a great decision. Not only is Inside absolutely hysterical, it taught me so many things about myself that I would never have thought of before. If you choose to watch it with your child, be aware that it’s kind of all over the place, but in the grand scheme of things, the point is there. Burnham showed an immense amount of vulnerability and emotion throughout Inside and made me feel extremely heard and understood. Anyway, please let your child watch it. Bo is a musical and comedic genius.

Loved it, but it’s not appropriate for kids

I watched inside with my older sister (then 15) at the age of 12. I didn’t understand most of the stuff in the movie as a 12 year old, but I watched it a year and a bit later and felt it on a more personal level. This movie has mature themes such as depression, social phobia, overall anxiety, and suicide, so I wouldn’t say it’s appropriate for kids under 13. But it can be very helpful and relatable for teens who have issues with their mental health, especially anxiety. I loved it as someone with severe anxiety and moderate issues with depression and other stuff. Bo does swear quite excessively, but most teens will have probably heard worse already. Two songs to be aware of is Sexting and Welcome To The Internet, because both talk about sex mildly. But overall, the movie is really moving for teens and adults with mental illness, and the beginning of the special is quite funny, and the ending of the special is really helpful. I recommend this movie to 13+, because it’s really good, but not appropriate for kids.

a great movie but make sure your good with swear words

I think this movie is very serious and creative. I know that I could have watched it when I was eleven or so. I really think that the only reason its not for kids is because of all of the swear words. There are A LOT of swearing but if your used to Bo's stuff its nothing new. It also talks about suicide but in this, hes trying to confince you to not commit suicide. But overall this was a great movie I support Bo's work fully. I completely recommend watching this.

"I got so much better, in fact, that in January of 2020, I thought "You know what? I should start performing again. I've been hiding from the world and I need to reenter." And then, the funniest thing happened..."

Bo Burnham: Inside is a 2021 musical dramedy film directed by Bo Burnham and starring himself. Language(4/5): Most of the language in the film is strong but used in the context of a song or used comically/casually, with 47 uses of “f**k”, 36 uses of “s**t”(one of the songs in the film is actually called “S**t”), 6 uses of “t*ts” and “d**k”, 3 uses of “a**” and “damn”, 2 uses of the middle finger gesture, “g****mn”, “pu**y”, “J*s*s Chr**t”, “G**” and “balls”, and 1 use of “c**k”, “wh*re”, “jizz” and “hell”. Burnham falls over and mutters the word "c**t" under his breath, which isn't in the subtitles but is audible. The film has 120 total curses. Sex, Romance and Nudity(3/5): The song “Sexting” discusses, well, sexting in detail, with use of the words “t*ts”, “d**k”, “pu**y”, “balls”, “jizz”, “vagina” and more; the lyrics are somewhat graphic but goofy in tone. The song “Welcome to the Internet” has lyrics including “'famous women’s feet'”, “'be horny'”, “'a whole bunch of colored drawings of all the characters in Harry Potter f***ing each other'”, “'a random guy just kindly sent you photos of his c**k, they are grainy and off-putting, he just sent you more, don’t act surprised, you know you like it, you wh*re'”, “'DM a girl and groom her'” and “'here’s why women never f*** you'”. Other sexual references are very tame. During the song “White Woman’s Instagram”, Burnham’s buttocks are briefly shown. In one scene, Burnham is nude but only seen from his side with no sensitive nudity shown. Burnham is frequently shirtless or in his underwear or both. Drinking, Drugs and Smoking: Mild verbal references to alcohol are made. Violence(3/5): Burnham’s mental struggles are shown in several scenes, including a scene where he angrily damages equipment, a scene where he breaks down in tears and an emotional scene near the end where he suffers a panic attack after going outside. Mental health struggles, panic attacks, depression and suicide are all discussed. Suicide jokes are told. Mature subjects such as terrorism and murder are referenced. Burnham holds a knife once in a tense moment. Positive Messages(3/5): The film discusses numerous aspects of life and doesn’t always provide positive answers but does encourage comedy, self-expression, positive mental health and caring for others. Positive Role Models and Representations(3/5): Burnham is a flawed man but does show laudable dedication to his craft, self-awareness and thought-provoking mindsets. Burnham does show intense vulnerability and this can encourage men to be more open about their own emotions. Watching Experience: Quality(opinionated): (My rating) Rated R For language and some sexual references.

wonderful emotional rollercoaster of a special. inside will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again. however, definitely 13+ since there is explicit language and sex jokes as well as discussions of triggering topics like suicide.

I think this is the best comedy movie of the 21st century

I love this film. Yes, it has a lot of swearing, talks of suicide, some serious bits and sex references but over all it’s not too bad as long as you are alright with swearing. So I would say 12+, as that is my age right now. ITS SO GOOD AHHH

This is good for 12 and up as long as they don’t repeat the swears. It also has a great message about staying safe online in one of the songs.

Fantastic special with great morals and music!

Bo Burnham's INSIDE is a fantastic film for any child aged 13 or over. The special does feature quite heavy topics like depression and suicide. But these messages are introduced in a way that's comfortable for audiences to interact with. Young teens could even resonate with some of these messages. Which is where I think the clever writing of this special truly shines, the music is catchy and addicting. With clever messages and morals, the visuals are incredibly impressive. And are full of variety and experimentation. The song transitions are incredibly funny and provide a nice break in between the action. The only song parents should look out for is 'sexting.' But even then, the song doesn't feature any explicit imagery. And only relies on innuendo and ridiculous lines to carry the comedy. Give this film a watch! It's really good.

masterpiece.

... just watch it. it does have language throughout and a song about sexting which is brief, as well as mentions of suicide. if you're an adult or mature kid, watch it and show it to your kids or friends.
