Built in Birmingham: Brady & The Blues
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Co-executive-produced by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight, BUILT IN BIRMINGHAM: BRADY & THE BLUES is a reality series that follows the involvement of champion NFL player Tom Brady in the rebuilding of the Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC) in the United Kingdom. Brady retired from professional football in February 2023 and purchased a 3.3% share of the once successful club six months later, marking the first time he has involved himself in the sport. Why? He has the time, the money, and the desire to help the club change its outlook and earn a spot in the Premier League after nearly 25 years. Meanwhile, coaches, players, and others talk about the history of the club, its relationship with fans, and the hopes they have for the future. There are lots of ups and downs throughout the transformative season, but Brady hopes that they'll beat their rivals and move up the U.K. football league pyramid.
Is It Any Good?
The mundane series features former NFL star quarterback Tom Brady involving himself in Birmingham City FC as a minority owner in hopes of boosting the organization's rankings and getting a return on his investment. While some of Built in Birmingham: Brady & The Blues offers highlights of BCFC football matches, much of it focuses on the changes in leadership and coaching that are taking place. Throughout are scenes with Tom Brady, who offers his insights to the players, financiers, and cameras, despite the fact that he's a minority owner with no real authority over the club and little knowledge of the sport. As a result, Built in Birmingham: Brady & The Blues seems little more than a promotional vehicle for the ex-NFL champion, and some lesser promotion for Birmingham City.
