What's the Story?

CALABASAS CONFIDENTIAL is an unscripted series following a group of twentysomethings who grew up in the affluent Southern California city made famous by the Kardashian family reconnecting after five years apart. It was 2020 when Nicole Sahebi and her classmates were enjoying life while attending Calabasas High. The COVID shutdown left them unable to socialize, and they eventually disconnected. Now Sahebi, a successful TikTok content creator, along with Raine Michaels, daughter of rocker Bret Michaels; NCAA basketball player Hercy Miller, son of hip-hop mogul Master P; Jodie Woods, the younger of sister entrepreneur and former Kardashians reality star Jordyn Woods; and self-proclaimed "Malibu cowboy" Dylan Wolf are reuniting to see how post-high school life has treated them. In addition to former classmates they're joined by other Calabasas-area friends like Preston Pippen, son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and Real Housewives of Miami star Larsa Pippen, Alexie Olivo, Kimora Lewis, and Emilie Nelson. Rounding out the group is Suede Brooks, a fashion influencer who Sahebi introduced to the Calabasas gang. They're all grown up now, but soon find themselves caught up in the gossip, hookups, and petty drama they thought they'd outgrown.

The vapid series is an extended reunion of a group of adult adolescents ("adultescents") from Calabasas High School and their friends as they rehash old grudges and create new ones. While many in Calabasas Confidential have spent the last five years studying, building their careers, and even getting sober, the production doesn't spend a lot of time on these substantive topics. Instead, it offers viewers a chance to watch them engage in endless and seemingly preplanned gossipy conversations and arguments over past and present hookups and relationships. A few celebrity cameos are also thrown in.

None of this is new to reality television, but Calabasas Confidential also features a combination of cast members expressing some distasteful old school misogynistic attitudes and deliberate camera shots highlighting the bodies of certain cast members that make the whole thing feel obnoxious. Still, viewers looking for some mindless voyeuristic entertainment will not be disappointed.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about "adultescents"—people who blend adult and adolescent behaviors. The cast members of Calabasas Confidential are college grads in their 20s who move back into their parents' mansions and rehash old drama. Does that seem relatable? Why do you think some young adults struggle to leave adolescence behind?

  • What are some of the ways that Calabasas Confidential reminds viewers that the city is an affluent one?
