Canada Shore
What's the Story?
Set in Kelowna, British Columbia, CANADA SHORE is a reality TV spin-off of Jersey Shore, 17 years later. With the original's breakout star, Snooki, also appearing as the cast's boss, the series follows a group of over-the-top 20-somethings who work by day and party by night. Just like its predecessor, the show thrives on outrageous behavior, clashing personalities, hook-ups, and plenty of alcohol-fueled drama.
Is It Any Good?
Fans of the original are treated to more of the same formula: wild parties, outrageous personalities, and chaotic conflict. Canada Shore's mindless entertainment may be occasionally fun in its ridiculousness but it doesn't try to rise above its own tropes. Emotional vulnerability is rare and often edited for shock or laughs. Despite its shallow attempt at diversity, any depth in backstory or identity is largely drowned out by yelling, clubbing, and scandal. Those hoping for insight or growth will be disappointed and, with all that's going on the world, the viewer is left feeling more than a little gross by how little respect the cast members seem to have for themselves, each other, and the broader world around them.
