What's the Story?

In CAPE FEAR, lawyer Anna Bowden (Amy Adams) focuses on freeing those who have been wrongly imprisoned. She has it all: a loving husband and fellow lawyer Tom (Patrick Wilson), a family, a large house, and a successful career. But news reaches her that Max Cady (Javier Bardem), sentenced to life for the brutal murder of his wife and child, has been exonerated. Seventeen years earlier, Tom was the prosecutor on the case and Anna, as Max's lawyer, convinced him to plead guilty. Soon the family endures nonstop terror and unease as Anna tries to prove that Max is out for vengeance.

This series is a topical and modern take on the brutal classic films about revenge. This version of Cape Fear is ominous, vicious, and grippingly stylized, even down to its bloodier scenes. The dynamic between Adams and Bardem is palpably tense and volatile. Viewers who are fans of the original(s) or the novel will find this adaptation refreshing and timely. The brutal violence, language, drug use, and sexual content make this suitable only for older viewers.
