What's the Story?

CASSANDRA follows the Prill family—Samira (Mina Tander), David (Michael Klammer), and their children, Fynn (Joshua Kantara) and Juno (Mary Tölle)—as they move into a secluded house, hoping for a fresh start. Unknown to them, the house is controlled by a highly advanced artificial intelligence named Cassandra (Lavinia Wilson) that was designed and made in the 1970s. At first, Cassandra seems helpful, but soon, strange and unsettling events begin, leading the family to suspect that something sinister is at play. As they uncover the AI's dark past, they must fight to escape its control before it destroys them.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

This German sci-fi thriller blends AI spookiness with campy visuals. Sometimes elevated by its formal, glossy cinematography, Cassandra is at its core an entertaining soap opera with solid characters and decent lead performances. The Prill family's dynamic feels warm and authentic, and audiences will soon find themselves rooting for these good people.

Villain AI Cassandra's retro design turns out sloppy rather than scary—but in an amusing way adds some B movie charms reminiscent of 1980s Hollywood. Despite its low production value, the show uses some technical flair, including crosscuts back and forth between past and present and cool POV shots through a VHS lens. It could make for fun family viewing with some proper parental guidance.
