What's the Story?

CHAMPION follows a brother-sister duo and their rise into the music industry. Bosco (Malcolm Kamulete,) freshly out of prison, is trying to restore his reputation in the rap industry. Despite having a team and a manager, the backbone of his career relies on the shoulders of Vita (Déja J. Bowens,) his little sister. She comforts him through his anxiety attacks, helps him get out of trouble, and even writes his music. Vita knows that any day now Bosco is going to make her his manager… until he doesn't. Fed up and underappreciated, Vita steps into the spotlight, much to Bosco's anger and dismay. As Vita finally uses her musical talents for herself, will getting the recognition she deserves be worth putting her family relationships in jeopardy?

Our review:

This series explores risking relationships for the cost of fame. Champion is tense and dramatic. Bowens and Kamulete portray the vulnerable and volatile sibling relationship very well. The characters are layered and complex, and audiences will be intrigued to watch their bonds unfold. Vita's journey into finding her voice (literally), and Bosco's redemption arc is a relatable and interesting watch.
