What's the Story?
Chocolix is an animated series about a brother and sister who live in a candy-filled world. Chocomark, Choclolyne, and their friends and puppy Sweetcookie have adventures in Chocoland, where they've recently moved from another kingdom. Their friend, Max, has hair that looks like sprinkles, and they attend a school where they're taught by Mr. Moonpie. Each episode ends with a short, lively song, like "Chocolele," all about a celebratory dance. The show also dedicates an episode to Chocomark's facial difference; he has warts (called "crispies" in the show) on his face and is concerned about bullying because of them.
Is It Any Good?
At first, this candy-colored series doesn't look like anything special, but beyond the heavy chocolate theme, it effectively addresses lots of issues in age-appropriate ways. "Choco" is Chocolix's "Smurf;" the kids' parents own a Chocospa where they offer Chocotherapy -- you get the idea. Kids will enjoy the bold animation and candy backgrounds, and though it looks like it, there's not really a push for junk food or chocolate beyond the show's designs. There are also lots of social-emotional lessons shared here, and plot points also promote generosity and teamwork. For example, when the kids find treasure, their family donates it to the city in order to build a reading center. It's pretty simple, but cute and filled with enough learning opportunities to recommend to preschoolers who want to meet some new characters.
