What's the Story?

CLASS OF '09 is centered on a group of FBI agents in 2023, in 2034, and in 2009 during their training at Quantico. The backstories of the four agents unravel in flashbacks, and the future timeline reveals how one of them introduced AI technology to the FBI's investigative process, leading to a steep decline in criminal activity. Despite this achievement, some people, including another member of the group, question the morality of the new system.

This show shares similarities with the movie Minority Report, offering a narrative of crime-fighting in a technologically advanced society that may go a step too far. The concept is intriguing but the execution is a bit wobbly. Class of '09 is set in a visually stunning futuristic world, albeit with some inconsistencies in its attention to detail (somehow homes and buildings have become super high tech but cars are exactly the same). Kate Mara's performance as Poet, the most intuitive of the agents, is quietly compelling and the evolving relationships among the quartet of agents adds interest to the storyline. But the agents' initial bonding feels contrived, and none of the cast has much chemistry together. The show does explore captivating cases from the agents' past, providing additional layers of storytelling and keeping things fresh. All in all, it's a show that will draw you in but not necessarily one you'll text with your friends about.
